💡 Today's Wisdom
"Tied to the worthy, losing the lesser" — *xì zhàng fū, shī xiǎo zǐ* — names the trade-off directly. Choosing to attach yourself to someone of real ability and character means releasing the easier, shallower connections. *Suí yǒu qiú dé, lì jū zhēn* follows: when you follow in the right direction, what you seek becomes attainable — but only if you hold to *zhēn*, staying grounded rather than drifting. The *Xiàng* commentary adds *zhì shě xià yě* — the will is set on leaving what is beneath you. Early in a career, two circles tend to compete for attention. One is the peer group that keeps things light — easy conversation, low stakes, no real friction. The other is the senior colleague or high-standard team that demands more, gives harder feedback, and requires genuine effort to keep up with. The yin at the 3rd is not saying the first circle is bad. It is saying you cannot fully inhabit both, and the one you invest in shapes the ceiling you eventually hit. Each week, track where your discretionary time actually goes. If the low-friction circle is consistently winning, that is the data point worth acting on.
🎯 Action Advice
Identify the one circle in your life that genuinely stretches you. Commit one concrete block of time to it this week, and let one draining obligation shrink to make room.
🔍 Today's Blind Spot
Aligning with a stronger person is not the same as chasing power or flattering those above you. If the one you follow lacks integrity, 'remaining steadfast' becomes impossible from the start. Following only works when the person is actually worth following — do not mistake opportunism for reading the situation well.
⚠️ Peak Leads to Decline
Going with the flow is good, but beware of peaking too soon. Stay humble and don't lose yourself in momentary success.
