💡 Today's Wisdom
*Shì lǚ kǎo xiáng* — "look back at your steps and examine the signs" — is the closing image of the entire hexagram. At the highest point, the movement is not forward but downward in reflection: did each step along the way hold to what was right? *Qí xuán yuán jí*, the line says — through that self-examination comes great fortune. The *Xiàng* commentary calls it *dà yǒu qìng yě*, a great cause for celebration, earned not by luck but by sustained discipline across every prior step. The moment people most often drop their guard is exactly when things are going well. A manager who reaches a senior role starts skimming the details. A team wraps a successful project and loosens its grip on process. Someone whose relationships are running smoothly forgets the care and boundaries that built them. The whole of *Lǚ* is about conducting yourself with integrity — and the top line is its reminder that the higher you stand, the more important it is to look back and check whether your conduct has held. True completion is not reaching the destination. It is being able to look back at every step without flinching.
🎯 Action Advice
Before today ends, review one recently completed project or decision — check whether your actions matched your principles, and write down one thing to do better.
🔍 Today's Blind Spot
At the top position, reviewing your conduct can easily become a ritual of self-congratulation, which defeats the purpose entirely. The point of looking back is to find real gaps and deviations, not to justify past decisions. Honest self-examination requires candor — without it, you are only reassuring yourself.
⚠️ Peak Leads to Decline
Going with the flow is good, but beware of peaking too soon. Stay humble and don't lose yourself in momentary success.
